Effect of Row Spacing and Sowing Rate on Forage and Seed Yield and Some Yield Parameters in Phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia Bentham)

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the effects of different row spacing and sowing norms on forage and seed yield and some yield components in phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia Bentham). The study was carried out in the 2022-2023 vegetation period in Siirt province conditions. Three different row spacings (15, 30 and 45 cm) and three different sowing norms (1, 2 and 3 kg da-1) constitute the subject of the research. In the study, plant height, number of lateral branch per plant, number of leaves, green forage and hay yield, number of flower raceme per plant, inflorescences numbers per plant, number of floret per raceme and seed yield parameters were examined. As a result of statistical analysis, row spacing had significant effects on green forage (p<0.01) hay yield (p<0.05), and seed yield (p<0.05), and parameters effective on seed yield (p<0.01). Sowing rate applications significantly affected other parameters examined, except for the number of inflorescences. According to the research results, while green forage and hay yield decreased significantly as the row spacing increased, an increase was observed in the number of flower raceme, number of inflorescences and number of floret per raceme. Seed yield decreased significantly in wide row spacing (45 cm) compared to other row spacings. In parallel with the increase in the amount of seed used, the number of lateral branches and seed yield and parameters effective on seed yield decreased, while increases occurred in other parameters examined. In phacelia cultivation, it is recommended to plant plants with a distance between rows of 15 cm for forage and seed production; 3 kg da-1 sowing norm for forage production and 1 kg da-1 for seed.
