The division of agricultural lands through inheritance and/or sale brings about the problem of shared ownership. Cultivation/planting areas with multiple shares lead to a loss of sense of belonging among producers and social issues between shareholders. On the other hand, it creates pressure on the economic sustainability of enterprises by causing informal division among shareholders of parcels that are not officially divided in the land registry. Considering both social and economic impacts, shared ownership in agricultural lands should be addressed as a significant problem in Turkey. This study aims to present the issue of shared ownership in agricultural lands from the producers' perspective. The main material of this study, conducted in the Boğazlıyan district of Yozgat province, consists of a dataset obtained through face-to-face surveys with 130 producers. In light of the information obtained, the main cause of shared ownership in agricultural lands was determined to be inheritance (90.0%). The fact that 75.9% of shared lands are below the officially indivisible land size (under 20 decares) further highlights the problem. Disagreements frequently occur among shareholders, mainly concerning issues such as leasing/selling the land and determining rental fees. In contrast, 47.7% of producers tend to consolidate ownership by purchasing all shares. It is believed that changes in inheritance law, such as implementing a competent heir system to ensure agricultural lands remain under single ownership, and effective land consolidation policy implementations could be influential in minimizing the problem of shared ownership.
