Determination of the Appropriate Sowing Time for Bread and Durum Wheat in Siirt Ecological Conditions

Abstract

This study was carried out with objective to determine the suitable sowing time of durum and bread wheat under Siirt ecological condition in 2015-2016 growing season. Artuklu (durum wheat) and Ceyhan 99 (bread wheat) cultivars which are commonly grown in region were used as material, the experiment materials were sown at five different sowing date as 1 October, 15 October, 1 November, 15 November and 25 November, respectively. In this study plant height, spike height, the number of spike per square meter, the number of spikelets, seed number per spike, 1000-seed weight, biological yield, grain yield, harvest index, the number of tillering, 10 spike weight and Hektoliter have been investigated. The results indicated that there were significant differences among plant height, spike height, the number of tillering, the number of spike per square meter, seed number per spike, 1000-seed weight and biological yields. The highest grain yield obtained from 2nd sowing time of Artuklu cultivar as 908.97 kg da-1 and 3th sowing time of Ceyhan 99 as 866,00 kg da-1, respectively. According to results, it was determined that the most suitable sowing time was 28th of October for Ceyhan 99 bread wheat cultivar, while it was 14th of October for Artuklu durum wheat cultivar under Siirt ecological conditions.
