Comparison of Some Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) Genotypes in terms of Herbage and Seed Yield

Abstract

This research was carried out for three years with 8 different alfalfas (Medicago sativa L.) genotypes in the research area of Dicle University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops in 2017-2019. No observations were made in the first year of the study. According to the two-year average results, the plant height is 69.50-82.38 cm, the number of stems per plant is 24.63-38.88, the green herbage yield is 241.8-558.9 g/plant, the dry herbage yield is 67.9-154.1 g/plant, the crude protein yield is 16.88-37.76 g/plant, the dry herbage rate is 28.12-29.05%, biological yield is 107.1-260.9 g/plant, seed yield is 12.99-18.15 g/bitki, thousand grain weight is 1.499-1.759 and harvest index ranged between 6.93-12.12%. According to the investigated parameters, in terms of plant height 8, 3, 6, 7, 4 and 2; in terms of the number of stems per plant 8, 3, 2 and 4; in terms of green herbage and dry herbage yield 8, 3, 4 and 6; in terms of crude protein yield 8, 3 and 4; in terms of seed yield and harvest index 8 genotypes gave the highest values. In the relations between features; positive and significant relationships were found between plant height and the number of stems per plant, green and hay herbage, and between green herbage yield and dry herbage yield and crude protein yield. It will be useful to consider genotypes 8, 3, 4 and 6 with high yield values in future breeding studies.
